Price conflict: The community shovel shop record read October 11 lists the Bronze Shovel at 3,000 coins. Another earlier community guide lists 2,500 coins. Treat these as reports, not confirmed current prices. Check your game shop.
Shovel comparison
Period coverage, fossil luck and costs below come from a community record, not our own gameplay session. Boat access may be separate.
| Shovel | Reported cost | Dig period | Luck | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Shovel Tier 1 | Starter | Cambrian | 1.00× | Starter |
| Bronze Shovel Tier 2 | 3,000 coins | Devonian | 1.05× | Disputed price |
| Silver Shovel Tier 3 | 15,000 coins | Triassic | 1.10× | Community recorded |
| Iron Shovel Tier 4 | 50,000 coins | Jurassic | 1.20× | Community recorded |
| Titanium Shovel Tier 5 | 150,000 coins | Cretaceous | 1.40× | Community recorded |
| Pacific Shovel Tier 6 | Quest reward | Panthalassa | 1.60× | Quest reward |
What should you upgrade first?
Start by learning the green digging meter with the Wooden Shovel. When you plan to move beyond Cambrian, compare the next shovel price with your current coins and make sure your boat can reach the next island. The numbers on different fan sites can lag behind patches.
Use your current in-game price
The coin planner allows you to enter the exact price visible in your own game. That is more reliable than blindly following either disputed Bronze price.
Prehistoric Farm shovels: how to choose your next upgrade
A better shovel is useful only when it solves the problem that is stopping your next fossil run. Before comparing reported tiers, answer two different questions: Can I reach the island? and Can I dig at its fossil site? The developer's official game description explicitly connects larger boats with access to more islands. Separate community equipment charts connect shovel tiers with different geological periods. That makes it possible to upgrade your shovel but still be unable to travel to the place you intended. Check the map and the current dig-site prompt before committing coins.
For a new player, the first goal is usually learning to use the green zone in the digging meter and finishing one fossil collection set. The actual collection screen we opened on October 11 displayed four pieces for each Cambrian and Devonian entry and three for each Triassic entry. These are observed set sizes, not fossil drop chances or a guarantee of how many digs you will need. The names of locked species were not visible on our new account. See our English in-game research notes before planning a particular creature.
How to compare reported shovel prices safely
Our table is a dated comparison, not a live mirror of the Roblox equipment shop. Some fan sources list Bronze at 2,500 coins while another lists 3,000. A guide can be outdated after a patch, can refer to an older progression system, or can simply contain a mistaken number. None of these explanations is proven here; the only reliable current price for your own purchase is the one the game actually shows you. We did visit a merchant and open the game's storefront, but those observations did not establish the actual Bronze, Silver or later shovel prices. We have deliberately left this conflict visible.
Read the dig period column as a community-reported access hint, not an automatic travel unlock. Read luck as an unverified community stat, not a promise of a particular dinosaur fossil or rarity. We do not have a measured drop-rate sample or a complete price history, so a “best shovel” ranking by coins per fossil would currently be guesswork.
Example budgets: why the exact price matters
Suppose your in-game balance is 1,800 coins. The two disputed Bronze examples give different plans. These are basic arithmetic examples and do not imply a real farming speed, a guaranteed reward or a confirmed item price:
| Community price example | Balance | Still needed | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze at 2,500 coins | 1,800 | 700 coins | Confirm the price in-game first |
| Bronze at 3,000 coins | 1,800 | 1,200 coins | Confirm the price in-game first |
| Any other price shown now | Your actual coins | Target minus balance, minimum zero | Enter both values in the calculator |
Our interactive coin and shovel planner applies the same formula with the values you enter. You can use it for a boat or another purchase too. It deliberately does not estimate how many fossil digs will earn the remaining coins, because verified earnings per dig and drop rates are not available. A simple accurate budget is more useful than a precise-looking but invented farming prediction.
A five-step upgrade check before you spend
- Choose the destination. Look at the current world map and decide which accessible or locked island you actually want next. If the map only displays a question mark, do not assume a fan wiki's location or boat tier is correct.
- Inspect your current tool. Find the shovel you already own, then check the next site's interaction or requirement in-game. Do not buy merely because a community list describes the next tool as stronger.
- Separate travel from excavation. If you cannot reach an island, consult the dock and our boats and ocean guide. If you can arrive but the dig site rejects your tool, research the shovel tier instead.
- Confirm the displayed cost. Look at the live equipment interface before buying. Community Bronze reports disagree by 500 coins; later costs may also change. Avoid promising yourself a specific upgrade from an old guide.
- Measure the remaining gap. Enter your coin balance and the observed cost into the planner. Save the number you need, then return to fossil collecting. Recheck the displayed price immediately before spending.
Prehistoric Farm shovel questions players ask
Is the Bronze Shovel 2,500 or 3,000 coins?
Both figures appear in dated community guides, but neither was confirmed during our live October 11 account session. Check the equipment shop inside your own game. If it shows something else, use that value rather than the examples here. The page intentionally preserves both reports so you can recognize conflicting information.
Will a shovel unlock another fossil island?
A shovel and a boat solve different access problems. The official description credits larger boats with travel to new islands. Community lists connect certain shovels with different dig periods. A better shovel does not by itself establish boat travel access. Check both your route and the dig site before choosing what to buy.
Does more fossil luck guarantee a rare creature?
No guaranteed odds are documented in the official description that we reviewed, and this wiki has not tested drop probabilities. The luck values in the table are unverified community reports. We do not use them to predict the number of digs or promise a particular rarity from one attempt.
Why does my fossil tracker need four pieces for some creatures but three for others?
Our direct Roblox capture showed 0/4 across the visible Cambrian and Devonian collection entries, and 0/3 for Triassic. Earlier community records had shown a different count, so we corrected the tracker to match the live menu we observed. These are period-level screen observations, not a statement about hidden future updates or every later-era creature.
What if my next island is still undiscovered on the map?
The starter map in our level-1 session showed Home Island and unknown destinations. We cannot responsibly infer the unlock chain, exact boat prices or travel time from question marks. Continue the game's current quests and read the unlock requirements shown in your session instead of using an unverified route as fact.
Are shovel speeds or digging rewards included in this comparison?
Not as verified performance benchmarks. We have no reproducible sample of timed digs, coin rewards per attempt or before-and-after shovel upgrades in the same game version. Adding those figures now would suggest firsthand evidence we do not have. The table compares reported tiers while the separate planner helps with a known coin budget.
